How to Disassemble a Peloton Bike for Moving

Got a move coming up? Taking apart your Peloton bike doesn't have to be a nightmare. Moving services in Evergreen can handle the heavy stuff, but knowing how to break down your bike correctly will save you from potential damage and repair bills. The seat, handlebars, pedals and screen all need special attention during disassembly. How do you tackle that touchscreen and console? I've covered you with straightforward steps to get your Peloton ready for the road.

Tools Needed for Disassembly

Grab these tools before you start taking your Peloton apart. You'll need metric Allen wrenches (4mm, 5mm, and 6mm) for most bolts. A pedal wrench or 15mm wrench is essential for those stubborn pedals. Keep adjustable pliers handy for tight spots, and a rubber mallet helps nudge stuck parts without damaging them. A torque wrench isn't essential but helps with precise reassembly. Don't forget a clean cloth to wipe down components as you work.

Removing the Seat and Handlebars

Drop the seat to its lowest position first. Find the adjustment knob under the seat and twist counterclockwise until it's loose. Pull the seat straight up to free it from the post. For the handlebars, loosen that front adjustment knob all the way. Pull up while gently rocking side to side until they come off. Put these parts in the same box or bag so you don't lose anything. Now you're ready for the next steps.

Detaching the Pedals and Crank Arms

The pedals can be tricky. Remember: the left pedal has reverse threading. Put your wrench on the left pedal and turn clockwise (yes, the opposite direction you'd expect) to loosen it. The right pedal loosens typically (counterclockwise). Once you've got both pedals off, find the bolts holding the crank arms to the frame. Remove these bolts with your Allen key, then firmly pull each arm away from the bike. They might need a good tug, but don't force anything that won't budge.

Taking Apart the Console and Screen

The screen needs extra TLC during disassembly. Find the bolts holding the console to the frame and remove them carefully. Take your time here—these screws can strip easily. Now for the cables: take a quick photo with your phone before unplugging anything if you're worried about remembering what goes where. Gently disconnect each cable, then lift the whole console unit away from the bike. Wrap it in something soft like a thick towel or bubble wrap to protect it during the move.

Disassembling the Frame for Transport

Look over your Peloton frame and find all the parts that need to come apart:

  • Locate and remove the bolts on the seat post clamp.

  • Use an Allen key to loosen the bolts on the handlebar stem.

  • Unscrew the pedals using a pedal wrench, turning counterclockwise.

  • Remove the water bottle holder by unscrewing the bolts attaching it to the frame.

  • Disconnect any cables or wires running through the frame by carefully detaching them from their connectors.

Don't wait until the day before your move to figure this out! Start now by collecting your tools and blocking off enough time to do this right. Take photos as you go—they'll be lifesavers when you're putting everything back together in your new place. Your bike will be ready to ride again in no time.
